I have to agree. The McAuliffe idiocy of bringing up Bush's service record was an utterly disastrous mistake from the Democratic viewpoint. That, coupled with that party's apparent wedding to the anti-war component that is attempting to resurrect the 70's stink of self-righteousness in a presidential campaign makes it an issue that will not go away and can only marginalize Kerry. My personal opinion is that the Dem strategists have been asleep at the wheel on this one.

HUGH HEWITT played John Kerry's 1971 Senate testimony on Vietnam on his radio show yesterday and remarks:
I played John Kerry's 1971 testimony on the radio program, and the response was intense. The first two hours brought scores of calls and e-mails which denounced Kerry for his slander of the military that served in Vietnam and for his understanding of the war. Kerry has thus far successfully dodged a discussion of the specifics of his testimony, and it was very hard to find the audio --it took my producer Duane considerable digging to find the tape.
The impact of actually hearing Kerry slander the military--his accent is unbelievable, and his tone of arrogance and condescension repulsive-- is powerful, and I do not believe he can serve successfully as Commander-in-Chief given the reactions I heard from veterans and currently serving military.
Hewitt links to a text version, but unfortunately the audio isn't available. I hope that someone will put the audio online so that more people can listen and decide for themselves...

The Dems have made a foolish choice, and the complaints of their pals in the print business won't keep it from becoming obviously so.. . . but then, if Kerry tanks in the polls they will simply do a Lautenberg switchero, no problem. And actually in the Electoral College as designed, they could legally do that after the election. The electors would have to go along with the gag, but . . .

"...but even more glaring is the missing data on lifetime ADA rating: Kerry voted the right way, according to the ADA,
92 percent of the time throughout his long Senate career,
while Teddy got it right only 90 percent of the time!
And Kerry's lead in liberal votes was even larger over Kennedy until the votes of 2002 were added into the mix. Thus the Los Angeles Times hides the central point of Kerry's political life that he is to the left of Teddy Kennedy in a story about how Kerry is to the right of Teddy Kennedy.
Good journalism that, eh?" - Hugh Hewitt

"No one has asked whether Kerry served honorable in combat. Of course he did". I wouldn't be too sure of that, something about his wartime heroics smells to high heaven.

Hewitts article is great but Mark Steyn said it better in his Feb. 10, 2004, Kerry Wont Scare Any of the Big Beasts. Steyn said, The only relevant lesson from Vietnam is this: then, as now, it was not possible for the enemy to achieve military victory over the US; their only hope was that America would, in effect, defeat itself. And few men can claim as large a role in the loss of national will that led to that defeat as John Kerry. A brave man in Vietnam, he returned home to appear before Congress and not merely denounce the war but damn his "band of brothers" as a gang of rapists, torturers and murderers led by officers happy to license them to commit war crimes with impunity. He spent the Seventies playing Jane Fonda and he now wants to run as John Wayne.

Ha Ha! I love it! Hewitt was there to debate that lightweight ranter Mike Malloy, and Malloy, in a typical pique, stormed off the set! Malloy used to be on WLS in Chicago, until he was "relieved" and went to, I think, Atlanta. Mike Malloy, while he was on WLS in Chicago, was the most hate-filled leftist ranter I have ever heard on the radio. His stock reply to anyone who disagreed with him, and to anyone who sought to rebut his lunacies with facts, was to cut them off the air and begin a childish rant to which his caller could not respond, since he or she had already been cut off. I know of no one here who liked the guy, but I know scores of people, including many liberals, who thought he was an embarrassment.
