Laura Bush seated next to teacher Sheri Schwarzback attends a class held by the reading intervention program at Limerick Elementary School in the Canoga Park area of Los Angeles
To me, she looks more comfortable in these settings than anywhere else on her official duties.

First lady Laura Bush speaks during a round-table discussion with teachers at Limerick Elementary School in the Canoga Park area of Los Angeles, Feb. 18, 2004, after she sat in on a class held by the reading intervention program. She encouraged students to read more than they watch television and to praise a literacy program expected to run out of funding later this year.

Look at Laura's face while she is hugging that child. Both she and her husband always show in body language and facial expressions that they sincerely love children.
The former administration used children like furniture, usually lining them up in the Rose Garden behind you know who to provide a photo-op.

Does it get any better than this? What a great couple we have as President and First Lady.

I'm here...
First Lady Laura Bush has a mother's touch in embracing the little girl, doesn't she? Absolutely lovely.
