The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are getting some Texas training.
They stopped in Central Texas to learn from Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.
The Mounties plan to ride in DPS vehicles and observe traffic stops.
They picked DPS because they share similar border concerns.
Mounted police Sgt. Rob Ruiters said the cross training is beneficial because it establishes contacts.
"The world is a smaller place, and so I'm saying there is a traveling criminal who is in Texas today may be in Canada tomorrow, or vice versa, Ruiter said.
Some DPS troopers will train with the Mounties in Canada this May.

Hope it's not about getting pointers on protecting southern borders.

They picked DPS because they share similar border concerns. ???? What, the Aleuts sneaking across the ice-pack or are disheartened Deanies running over the boarder looking for work. No, its the retired US citizens looking for cheap prescription drugs. Stop'm at the border, eh.

I was unaware that U.S. citizens were sneeking into Canada? Interesting post though - thanks!

Thanks, that explains it. I didn't think about that.

Texas DPS officers catch a lot of different problems that other states never see. Smuggling of drugs, illegal foods and animals, and a myriad of unique criminals. DPS officers are for the most part well trained and can go from the DPS to the Texas Rangers. I have a high school classmate that did just that and is one of the most respected Rangers in Texas.
Mounties have to deal with political correctness run amok and excessive and ridiculous gun control, they need some realistic education.

Cool. I always loved the Mounties' uniform. The only Mounties who are allowed to deviate from the uniform are Sikhs, who get to wear a turban, which looks just as good.

Don't you know that's going to weird people out when they get pulled over in west Texas and see a mountie getting out of the car?

Over 10 posts, and not a tinfoil comment yet. Foreign cops patroling Texas highways.
Or maybe they are just in Texas to learn how the DPS deals with those French separatists just across the border in Cajun Louisiana.
