From correspondents in Tokyo

POLICE and firefighters cordoned off an area near the Japan Defence Agency headquarters after residents reported hearing two loud explosions, the Kyodo news agency reported today.

Residents in the vicinity of the Defence Agency's headquarters in Tokyo reported hearing two loud bangs in what police suspect might have been a projectile attack aimed at the agency's premises," the report said.

Tokyo metropolitan police officials and firefighters rushed to the scene after reports of the noise around 11.00pm yesterday and cordoned off an area around a temple and cemetery near the agency's headquarters, Kyodo reported.

Police found two launchers in the premises of the temple although projectiles had not been found, the report added.

Anti-war lobby blamed for attack on Japanese Defence Agency

Opponents to Japan's involvement in Iraq have been blamed by police for a fiery, but HARMLESS, attack on the country's Defence Agency building in central Tokyo.

Police found two home made missile launchers in the area, but have yet to locate missiles they may have fired in the attack, which caused no damage or injuries.

Sounds like the Chukaku-ha is having anoter Geritol moment. These are the last remnants of the 60s counter-culture university radicals. Not many of them around anymore.

The ones that are left are pretty much in geezerhood and popping off a homemade mortar round or two, which does absolutely no damage, gives them a chance to show their stuff.

Still, given the terror scare these days, I would think they would be keeping a lower profile. Cops are not lilkely to be as indulgent about their games as they were previously.
