Most of the time, when a cat "saves" someone, it's circumstantial. For example, a fire scares the cat, the cat gets freaked out and makes noise, the family wakes up and they credit the cat. Whoop-di-doo.

Dogs have been known to put themselves at risk for their owners. I have yet to hear of a cat that does that. Or... how about that dog gave it's life to protect an infant from bees? It covered the infant with its body and died from all the stings it received. I'll grant you that a cat doesn't have that ability, but I can't even see a cat putting itself moderately at risk for the sake of its owner.
