It seems to me that civil disobedience became a Democratic
Party shrine at the same time that political Party was co-opted by the Communist Party USA.But many Democrats would probably deny that ever happened,much th esame way many
Communists denied any associations with that brand of
Socialism.

Very true! The dominant media were complicit back then in ignoring this association. Being anti-anti-American was worse in the eyes of the dems and the press than being anti-American. Senator McCarthy became the personification of this view - hence McCarthyism has been a code word to push back any criticism of socialism/communism for the past 50+ years.
