Police See Possible Hate Crime in Calif.

FREMONT, Calif. - Maria Esperanza Hernandez usually got a ride to her 5 a.m. shift at a nursing home, but this time, she had to walk the four miles through the night. Her daughter was so concerned, she joined her.

They never made it.

Hernandez and her 19-year-old daughter, Maria del Carmen Castillo Hernandez, were bludgeoned to death with a 30-inch-long tree branch Sunday as they walked down a suburban street.

Police searching for a suspect have not ruled out the possibility that the killings were a hate crime because the attacker was described as white and the victims were from Mexico.

Because the victims were illegal immigrants, they could not have obtained driver's licenses even if they could afford to buy a car. That has become a flashpoint in the case among Hispanics because a law to allow undocumented immigrants apply for licenses was repealed after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger took office.

"It's a very difficult political situation," said Fily Cuellar, Maria Esperanza Hernandez's nephew and the girl's cousin. "She was not able to get a license, so then they had to walk. And this happened."

First of all its sad that two people got killed

But to imply that these women died because the state of California would not give illegals drivers license is utterly absurd.

Absurd as it is though, I wouldn't be surprised if the dems put this in their arsenal.

Interesting though how when minorities atrtack whites for no apparent reason its never a suspected "hate crime." In fact even when its known that they attacked whites because of a hatred of whites (John Muhammed, Lee Malvo, and Colin Ferguson to name a few) its still not a "hate crime"

Key here is that they were illegal. They should not have been here in the first place.

Yeah. A lot more people have died because illegals do drive, licenced or not, and usually badly. Anyone who has spent time in Florida has seen a "cockroach effect" accident, where after the battered car that ran the light has stopped crashing, the eight people run in eight different directions, the car turns out to be uninsured and unregistered.

The people who were hit by the "undocumented workers" find that the damage to their car, and their medical costs, must come out of pocket.

Just one more of the small taxes you pay to keep the oily Señor Fox's Swiss bank account growing.

Good point. Our recent governor here in Illinois, George RINO Ryan (possibly the most pathetic RINO known to exist) got in trouble for giving licenses to illegals for bribes. Which were linked to at least four fatal crashes and dozens of other accidents across the US http://www.cnn.com/2000/US/03/16/truck.licenses/

Both good points. Besides, the reason they were walking is that the woman's boyfriend was unable to drive them, so they had access to a car, just not at the time she needed it.

It is not just that the dems might use it, it is the general stupidity of 33 1/3% of the population who will believe it immediately with no questioning as we do here. That is just how it is.

Which could mean the killer was from Mexico too. *Hispanic* Mexicans are frequently listed as *white* so as to not have the statistics for Hispanic criminals skyrocket beyond the 50% levels now seen in some areas.
