I have always read that Kerry did not get out early because of his wounds, and was not discharged, but that he was transferred to the States and served the rest of his time here.

You are mistaken. Kerry ASKED for and received an early discharge.
You aren't aware also it seems of the Veterans against Kerry organization. Veterans who said his testimony before Congress was shown to them while they were held in POW camps and used as propoganda by our enemy while we had soldiers in the country. No matter what time Kerry met with Hanoi Jane, she is one of the most reviled women in America and he aligned himself with her in the 70's.
