Marable believes that every black family in the United States should receive reparationsPretty ignorant statement, since there are many black families in the United States who voluntarily immigrated to this country after slavery. Does Colin Powell, who's parents immigrated from Jamaica, deserve reparations? How about the many Nigerians and other Africans who have immigrated here?
Not to mention that many Blacks are descended from people who enslaved other Blacks shipped over here. Any reparations scheme would have to involve those Blacks paying the ancestors of the other Blacks for this conduct.
