Myrna gives us a gossipy blast against such media luminaries as Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Tina Brown, Good Housekeeping's Ellen Levine - oh, I won't go on. But, suffice it to say, I am right there among them in what Myrna conceives as a "liberal cabal" out to turn America's women into miserable left-wingers who believe every word dished out to them about health, weight, looks, sex, love, romance and family values.

These people are so far into self-hypnosis and self-denial that it is hard to understand how they function in life. Sheesh. "Liberals? Around here? Nawwwwww..."

For instance, John Stossel and Blyth could get in bed together with their titles. His is "Give Me a Break: How I Exposed Hucksters, Cheats and Scam Artists and Became the Scourge of the Liberal Media." Is Liz upset Blyth won't get in bed with her?

Mar. 2, 1994 While Hillary Clinton lunches in March 1994 with the queens of New York gossip -- Cindy Adams, Linda Stasi, Jeannie Williams and Liz Smith -- the subject of the upcoming midterm elections comes up. From Smith's March 2, 1994 report:
"Would she campaign for her brother Hugh Rodham, who is about to run for office in Florida?
"(Mrs. Clinton) hesitated and said, 'I am not sure he has decided yet to do it, but if he does, I'll help him any way I can.'
"Would she ever run for office herself? She gave a very definite 'NO!'"

Thanks for the backfill.
Cindy Adams is another particularly cloying and annoying geriatric gossip typist. She really p*ssed me off about a year ago when I followed the picture of Ann Coulter in her column to what she wrote about Ann. In it, she attacked Ann, and pretty viciously.
I hope they all get their comeuppance, the ignorant self-important biddies.

Thanks, I'm glad I brought you some joy. Btw, I would love to have the following read to all the so-called victims:
"There are many who find a good alibi far more attractive than an achievement. For an achievement does not settle anything permanently. We still have to prove our worth anew each day: we have to prove that we are as good today as we were yesterday. But when we have a valid alibi for not achieving anything we are fixed, so to speak, for life. Moreover, when we have an alibi for not writing a book, painting a picture and so on, we have an alibi for not writing the greatest book and not painting the greatest picture. Small wonder that the effort expended and the punishment endured in obtaining a good alibi often exceed the effort and grief requisite for the attainment of a most marked achievement."

In many years, for instance, of knowing Barbara and Diane quite well, I don't recall ever having a political conversation with either of them.
What a clumsy sentence. Also, after reading it, and being familiar with Diane and Barbara's liberal views, I am skeptical it is true (if a professional "journalist" like Liz Smith can get away with writing such awkward run-on sentences, I can too...) Liberals never keep their views to themselves.

You mean to tell me that the liberal ideology is nothing more than astrology-like faith?

FWIW my theory is that these people don't think of it as talking politics when they kvetch to each other about how awful George Bush is, or Newt Gingrich or Ronald Reagan was (years ago). Politics is that nasty business people on the right engage in. What we're doing is something else entirely, something more noble, intellectual. We're just trying to help people.

You've made a great point: "We're not discussing politics, we're talking TRUTH." Har-de-har-har-har.

Just the same old "How could he have won? I don't know a single person who voted for him" mentality.
To: Welsh Rabbit
Just the same old "How could he have won? I don't know a single person who voted for him" mentality. Google reveals that the person who said that was Pauline Kael, former film critic for The New Yorker. As you probably know, the remark itself references Richard Nixon's victory in 1972.
Isn't Google amazing?

But is the way to sell books these days an attack on the politics of half the nation, since we do seem to be all but literally divided? This is rich coming from a gossip columnist who doesn't actually break any gossip anymore (she doesn't want to get her hands dirty), but uses her column every single day to attack Bush and other Republicans.
To: Pharmboy
"Those dames were always just out to get the story, whatever it might be, whether the subject was Democrat, Republican, blue or red or black or white all over"
If anybody believes that drivel ....???
