[history]
Proposition 56 would make it a lot easier for the Legislature to pass a budget and raise taxes. They dare call it 'accountability.'
Those Californians who agree with the Democratic premise that government should spend more dollars on every imaginable program, that efforts to balance the budget by slowing spending are heartless, and that taxes aren't nearly as high as they should be, have a chance to put their money where their mouths are on March 2.

The TV spot I've seen against this has a beautiful gal explaining in no uncertain terms why this is a bad idea.

We have our work cut for us. The tax and spend lobby is well financed but they can only win if they're allowed to get away with misrepresenting the real deal in Proposition 56. The public needs to be reminded behind all the good government fluff, its actually a scheme to make it easier to raise your taxes.

Oh I have been giving the thought of a "no state income tax referendum" a lot of thought lately for November. If they don't have it they can't spend it. And if TX & FL can operate without a state income tax there is no reason why CA can't. The problem with these propositions is that they are coming up on a 'Rat primary instead of a general election so there probably won't be as many GOPer's voting as 'Rats.

I agree. I haven't given this a lot of thought but I realize that the illegal immigration problem is pulling the wages in general for unskilled labor and hence people who have lost jobs are forced to take lower paying jobs. There just might be something to duties on imports to...And I think it's about time for manufacturers to start looking to America as a source for "the best quality" in goods similar to what people think of Italian suits and German & Italian automobiles. I mean it wasn't too long ago that Cadillacs & Duesenbergs were the finest automobiles in the world. Bring back the quality and craftsmanship and you bring back high paying jobs to America.

If someone like Gray Davis or Bill Lockyer or Phil Angelides were governor, any time the Legislature overspends, the governor would sign the bill and your taxes would go up. All spending restraint would be gone. Even anti-tax Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger would have a hard time saying no to everything that would come his way. It would cause open class warfare, recession, and perhaps street violence, but perhaps at last people would get rid of the Democrats. Sometimes I wonder if it would be worth it.

Polls show that the public is confused on Prop. 56, thanks to a deceptive advertising campaign by unions, who purposefully emphasize the popular limitations on legislators' pay. The Public Policy Institute of California shows 41 percent of voters supporting it, and 35 percent opposing it. Taxpayer advocacy groups are worried. The unions have an enormous amount of money and energy to devote to an initiative that will mean more money for them. Their ads FOR 56 are very deceptive!!!
But someone is running an EXCELLENT counter ad !

I am amazed at how many younger people have bought this bs.
We have to get the word out re who are the real sponsors of this higher tax Trojan Horse, like the labor unions and every welfare pushing ngo in California.

I've seen two anti-56 ads so far (one man, one woman) over the past few days.
Hooray for the good guys.

Polls show that the public is confused on Prop. 56, I contacted the "No on 56" folks and asked why I hadn't seen any ads representing their side and I received an email that they didn't have enough money to run many ads. They are being outspent by the unions. So I was asked to please pass on the truth about proposition 56.
Folks, NO ON 56 needs your help to succeed. Please pass on this website and tell folks they need to know the truth. Please help to get the word out there.

Same here. I thought I'd include the fact that the opponents of 56 have little money to get the word out. They need everyone's help.
