Their actions are in large part a response to constituent complaints about the spiraling budget deficit, as well as growing anger among the conservative base over federal spending, which has reached record levels.

Emails may actually work...

"GOP PLANS CUTS, REFORMS, TO TACKLE BUDGETARY WOES"

"Town Drunk Plans to Go on Wagon"

Which do you think is more likely to dry out?

For example, the $534 billion Medicare bill that Congress passed last year would have died in the House for having exceeded budgetary limits had GOP leaders not waived those limits with a floor rule.

Hastert should rephrase his statement to be "Everything's on the table, except for ..." There's no way they will roll back their spending spree and will instead look to cut some minor symbolic programs.

"and the moderate Tuesday Group."

Everything's on the table huh? How about kicking these RINO jackasses out of the GOP and taking an ax to the Fed budget?

"..nothing is sacred in this business." (Hastert)

Bull. I remember when they tried to eliminate the reserved congressional parking spaces at Reagan National Airport.

So ... they've been spending like crazy for three years to get everybody to like them (and presumably reelect them) and now that it's an election year they're gonna cut back and PO all those people they been paying off? Fat chance! Best that'll happen is a few symbolic cuts and a lot of sleight of hand bookkeeping.

Things are starting to look ...

Very good for conservatives in 2005, if we stay united and WIN a Republican majority

... the Republicans are starting to wake up and smell the coffee on spending... We have cut taxes to 16% of GNP, and spend at 19% of GNP. We want to balance the budget without re-raising taxes like Kerry wants to do.

What's the only solution?
