Catholic Sisters Expose Gruesome Organ Trafficking in Mozambique

MOZAMBIQUE, February 3, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Zenit.org reports that five missionary nuns working in Mozambique have revealed a gruesome network trafficking in human organs that involves kidnap and murder of child victims and the complicity of police. In a report revealed by the Catholic aid agency, Veritas, the nuns described "kidnappings and multiple killings of persons, many times children, victims of an organ trafficking network."

The nuns have received death threats for uncovering the network and report that they have already themselves escaped four attempts at ambush. The nuns were able to gather in the information because the operation was carried out from a property next to their own convent to which some of the child victims fled. The nuns observed the trade where victims are killed and their organs flown out of the country by night.

The report coincides with the disappearance of dozens of local children and youths. One young girl who escaped described being picked up while hitchhiking. The driver asked about her state of health and, on finding her in good health, started driving to the property of a "white couple" who appear to be running the network. The girl fled the vehicle and escaped.

The sisters investigated in the local neighbourhoods "and found a place in the city in which there was a corpse that had the eyes, heart and kidneys removed,"

In the sisters' account, the local authorities, to whom they initially reported, are corrupt and indifferent. "There is great corruption in Mozambique after so many years of war," the report said. "The police, the airport, the local government -- all are implicated."

The sisters were forced to go to another community to alert competent authorities. "The local authority is completely involved through bribes and, despite knowledge of many of these facts, no one has yet been arrested," the report said.

urban legend, about children kidnapped for organs...started by the KGB in India back in the 1970's and has been spread in brazil, Korea (which even had a film about it) and numerous other countries.

This has been used by locals to stop europeans and Americans from adopting children in these countries.

Second, what nuns in Mozambique? Machel threw out all non African nuns in the 1980's-- one of my friends, a native of Zimbabwe was sent there to teach novices since there were few local nuns, and most of these local nuns had little education (my friend had a Masters in education and theology; she is no longer there, due to health problems)...

Finally, the dirty little secret is that this is actually Bantu sorcery. Alas, it is not uncommon. A person who wants a successful store will kill a person, usually a young person around puberty, and place part of his organs --often the heart and genitalia--under the store, and the god will make you successful.

A less ugly version of this is sacrificing chickens in the Santera cult.

There also have been some stories of people using this type of sacrifice to cure HIV...

I should add: from a medical standpoint, this is also nonsense.

Organs have to be taken out fresh, before they get acidotic from death, and before the blood that isn't moving starts to clot...that is why often they take the organs after brain death, but before the heart stops beating. Once the heart stops beating, the organ is no good. Heck, even the chinese take organs out of their prisoners to transplant before they shoot them...

Second, if the organs are taken out in Mozambique, who are they put into? Yes, you can refrigerate and ship an organ for a day or two...but this is a country with few airplanes.

Third, transplanting an organ is easy. Any bimbo could do it. The big problem is keeping the recipient from dying from organ rejection...this takes medications and a fairly sophisticated hospital system.

Now, third world countries can do it (for example, Japenese rarely donate organs due to cultural beliefs, but the more altruistic Filippinos do, so many Japanese go to Manila for new kidneys...ditto for India, which has a growing black market in selling kidneys to rich Arabs. But next to India and the Philippines--heck even next to Zimbabwe and South Africa--Mozambique lacks the infrastructure to make this believable.

The only way to "kidnap children for organs" would be to drug them and hog tie them and ship them to a large hospital in JoBurg alive...and even in corrupt south Africa, this is unlikely...

This is human sacrifice in Bantu sorcery, as anyone who knows Africa is well aware that this goes on.

And before you guys start laughing at primitive Africans, might I remind you that at least Africans call this murder, and do not make heroes of such people, unlike Hollywood making a hero out of Hannibal Lector.

I'll defer to your professional judgment on the matter, LadyDoc. I have seen similar stories about Chinese prisoners being killed for their organs, which supposedly are also "urban legends."

Yep.

I tend to wonder if stories like these aren't being given airplay in order to hasten the legalization of organ sales by individuals.
