I am wondering why the writer felt the compunction to say this. Why is there no mention of the fact that Malvern is part of the Main Line, which consists of the most exclusive and affluent suburbs in Philadelphia?

Not all of Malvern is what I would consider "affluent". There are many middle class areas, especially inside the actual borough of Malvern.

The article here actually gives the location of her parents' house (Madeline Drive).

That's weird. I used to live on Madeline Drive in Malvern - in a light green house to boot. It would be too weird if it were the same house. Not a posh neighborhood, as things go in that neck of the woods. Nice though - the ranch house I lived in was built in the 50's or early 60's, judging by the pink and aqua tiling in the bathrooms.
