But Teresa was born in Lourenco Marques in 1939 according to my records, before WWII began, and obviously the late Dr Thierstein had already been married and living in Mocambique for some period prior to that. The fact he would have wanted to get OUT of Europe suggests he was not much of a Nazi sympathizer. Agreed - most likely he fled the Nazis.
On the other hand, there's all sorts of reasons they would want to pre-position one of their agents in a harbor town near the Horn of Africa:
