Ailes got mad because Drudge showed this picture on the air:

Ailes fired him on the spot.

Let me clarify that: It might have been that Ailes heard that Drudge was going to show the picture, ordered him not to, and Drudge walked [before the picture was ever shown].

Anyway, that picture was the reason he left:
