Avian flu has been found in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, officials said Thursday.
The virus was found at a farm in Mount Joy, Pa., that raises egg-laying chickens and at four live-bird markets in northern New Jersey. New Jersey said it is the same strain that has been found in Delaware. Pennsylvania officials said it could be the same strain.

New Jersey officials found the flu in the course of routine inspections of the markets, Gruzlovic said. State officials do not typically make announcements when they find the flu. It is only because of the news of the outbreak in Delaware that they made the announcement this time. I find that bolded statement to be totally irresponsible - considering how decimating this disease can be to farmers and the industry as a whole.

Bird flu is causing a lot of problems in asia right now

A family slaughter chickens for food in Northern Vietnam. The United States formally sounded the alarm over its own outbreak of bird flu as Vietnam said it had reversed an earlier decision to kill all poultry within a three-kilometre radius of a bird flu outbreak(AFP)

A veterinary officer adds fuel into a pit where hundreds of slaughtered chickens are being cremated as villagers look on in Thanh Oai district, Northern province of Ha Tay. The United States banned the import of birds from eight countries in southeast Asia, where the spread of bird flu is blamed for 16 deaths.(AFP/Hoang Dinh)
