Hmmmm....i don't know about that. What Putin said was a mix of pre-election rhetoric and poignant reminiscing of the past days when Russia was mega-powerful. Making something on the level of a USSR re-incarnation would be hard, especially on the short-term, and would take more than words.
However we (the US) are rapidly moving toward becoming socialist in nature and psyche. And it is not a Democrat thing ....nope. BOTH PARTIES are equal partners, with the difference being that our guys, the Repubs, are taking the scenic route compared to the Dems fast-and-straight route. The Dems would get us there faster, but the Repubs will get us there nontheless. We basically have to chose between the tortoise and the hare, and there are no viable third choices (any choice apart from those 2 is laughable, and the Dems are obviously a no-no, hence we are left with the best choice ....relatively (with emphasis) ....which is the Repubs).
Hence i would say the USSA will come long before the USSR re-emerges, if the CCCP even comes back to life . In my opinion what will happen is that Russia will become wealthier and more democratic (yeah, i know of the Oligarchs, and i know Putin has made some decisions that make some people uncomfortable, but in the intermediate run ...less than a decade ...it will be wealthier and more democratic). Instead of a Soviet Bloc 'ala' USSR we will have a strong Russia which will be more USA than USSR. And i hope that is the case because, if we are still the Ol' US of A, we will need a strong democratic Russia to help us against a neo-superpower China (or mroe likely Chinese-bloc).
Again ...hopefully we will still be the United States of America and not the United Socialist States of America.
