Even in Novak's first apology he said the "CIA official" told him not to reveal the name. But Novak thought he should be warned more strongly. He's devious, even in explaining his backstabbing.

Actually, I believe Novak on this right now. He's an experienced, a really experienced, reporter/commentator. He knows the rules.
To propose that he felt so strongly compelled to ignore all danger signs and warnings and threaten his career -- just so he could allegedly help the WH take a little shot at someone nobody but the DC press corp was interested in -- is silly and nonsensical.
IMHO, he called the CIA, he got the CIA SOP response -- 'we never like it when any of our employees (public or private) are mentioned in the press' -- and proceeded because it was obvious the CIA did not think Plame (or any of her operatives/operations) were in any danger.

"These new accounts, provided by a current and former administration official close to the situation, directly contradict public statements made by Novak." Alan Foley?
