Al will not run in 2008 unless he has a death wish. The Clinton's told him his one shot was in 2000, which is why he was so desperate with his court challenges. Senator, you voted "Not Guilty" in the 1999 Senate trial of then-President Clinton on the charge of perjury under oath in a court of law regarding his affair with an intern. Did the knowledge of your own ongoing indescretions influence your vote at all? I mean, we now know you were at the time boinking anything in a skirt that could move on its own and concealing the fact.

I still feel Hillary is rethinking her decision and is looking to be drafted.

It's always been my sense that Hitlery has no interest whatsoever in campaigning to the great unwashed for a full election cycle. Not in 2004, not in 2008.

Also, a full election campaign will expose her to extended scrutiny, which I'm sure is not in her gameplan.

She wants to be a last-minute candidate, and that can only happen in the midst of a meltdown at the Rat Convention.

An excellent and perceptive question. One old tactic is to float an easily discredited false story, then try to lump the two stories together, claiming they're both equally false. There's an added advantage in being able to play the "victim" of the "mean-spirited".

I'm very leery about this story. It's all well and good to have our fun with it, I guess, but I'd be really, really careful about jumping too quickly. I suspect the "news" folks have similar sentiments.

I almost agree with you. But in my heart I feel the allegations are very plausible. And if so, it may be a totally different reason than anyone has suggested. Maybe the 'Toons knew about it and decided it was to much of a risk to think that the entire media/left/etc. would bite their lips until after the elections before leaking this and they wanted to at least make sure Rove did not use this to bring JFngK down in flames in October. Whatever the result, my theory goes, Toon would be happier with a nominee that did not have a harkonian heart plug in place (or suicide bomb armed for those of you who never read Dune).
