How do Democrats think they are going to get any traction out of proving Bush avoided serving in a war they opposed? The people who are going to be concerned with such things know that Bush is prepared to make war on jihadists, and that Kerry can't make up his mind.
Veteran status only counts as a guide to future action. Bush has been quite open about what he is going to do with his time left in office, he is going to chase down the people who want to kill us, and either finish them or make them cry uncle.
Kerry has also been quite open about where he is going to lead us. He is going to put the war on auto-pilot and let the UN tell us what to do. He has been quite frank about it.
What does the respective veteran status of the two men tell us that we don't already know?

That's the factor that's been missing in my confusion about this issue: why is it okay for Kerry to have rightously protested this war and the government of this country, but not for Bush to have been able to do what he chose to do, work to get somebody elected to Congress?
