Let's face it--most people who served in the Guard at that time did so to avoid seeing combat. Oh really? Is this something you know or are you simply saying something that you have heard 1000s of times?
And, are you suggesting that this is the case with W? If so, are you aware of the differences between the Guard (NG) and the ANG which W served in?

I am so happy to see this again about Cleand & the way he lost his limbs. I had always heard that he was drunk & playing with a gernade when he was injured. People needs to know the truth about him & how he was injured. Not in War but due to him being drunk & his careless behavior....... Thank you for printing this report again...

Hold on now.
I'm a conservative republican and a veteran.
Max went to Vietnam with two arms and two legs. He returned with one arm. I don't care how it happened.
Ann shouldn't nit-pick over the hows or whys of what happened to the guy. She was unreasonable and cruel in that article.
To: alloysteel
You guys should see the DU thread about this. Death threats for Ann galore! The truth hurts the DUmmies.
To: My Dog Likes Me
Ann goes down such roads to stay viable as the other-side panelist on the talk shows.
She is smart, but not always impressive.

In strict accordance with the FreeRepublic by laws,
paragraph 4, section 7, stating that, and I quote:
"any mention of our beloved Ann Coulter
must include her image", I offer the following
pictures for your exclusive viewing pleasure.
Carville really IS gollum.

Let's face it--most people who served in the Guard at that time did so to avoid seeing combat. The Air National Guard flew over 30,000 combat sorties in Vietnam.

Yeah! Just like college deferments at the time.
Most of those who went that route justed wanted to make sure they were going to be really smart soldiers when they finally graduated.
To all of these chaps, it was such a pity that the war ended before they finally focused on one of their many majors and received their diplomas.

That's worth repeating:
The Air National Guard flew over 30,000 combat sorties in Vietnam.

I'm with you--I hate the constant 'tattling' by the media about the things the soldiers do in combat zones. They definitely don't need to be scrutinized by civilians like me (IF they are not things that are considered unreasonable by the majority of soldiers!)
Cleland was rotten for lots of reasons, but it seems sort of obnoxious to kick a guy who had three limbs blown off, for whatever reason.

Face it, more women than will ever admit (most FReepers excepted, of course), vote according to which candidate makes the cutest couple and which guy looks like he's the more attractive provider.
It just amazes me how many people vote for looks and personality, that is what I call a moreon vote. If a person doesn't know anything about the issues, they shouldn't be allowed to vote.

I think only us cute guys should be allowed to post.

Cleland lost the wrong appendage.
The hypocracy of the liberal left in making an issue of ANYONE'S war record after their defense of draft-dodging, commie-suck-up Bill Clinton is beyond laughable.

Thank you for the history lesson.
Now go back and read about Benedict Arnold's war record before he turned into a synonym for traitor.
Hero at Balfour Island, wounded in action at Quebec, wounded in action at Saratoga - conspired with British to surrender George Washington and West Point, a key defense post connecting New England with the rest of the revolting colonies. Later served with British forces in Connecticut and Virginia.
Clelland can go to the same Hell that Benedict Arnold is in and take his medals with him.

I hate the constant 'tattling' by the media about the things the soldiers do in combat zones.Yeah, I mean, that's what the UCMJ is for. It's not all cut and dry. It's not all so simple that civilians can pontificate about it.

Ann shouldn't nit-pick over the hows or whys of what happened to the guy. She was unreasonable and cruel in that article. Then Cleland's getting a taste of his own medicine for attacking Bush's service for no damned good reason.

Going after a triple amputee, no matter how dispicable he may be, is not the best strategy in winning converts.
To: Bluntpoint
Going after a triple amputee, no matter how dispicable he may be, is not the best strategy in winning converts. Agreed, as much as I hate to give this guy a free pass. I remained silent in the last thread because, after reading Ann's story, I went and did some research on Cleland. Turns out, the man volunteered to serve his country in Vietnam, a fact Ann leaves out.

weekend warriorI'm not in the guard, but if I were, I would be highly insulted by this term and I would let Mr. Cleland know it. Anybody have his email ??

I think the specific issue that Ann was referring to was the "grenade incident" and how it was hyped and misrepresented.
