Clinton's military record--or lack of--never bothered this hypocrite. He even supported Clinton over GHW Bush.

Something tells me that Annie wrote this headline herself.

War hero, or Darwin Award candidate?

Cleland lost three limbs in an accident during a routine noncombat mission where he was about to drink beer with friends. He saw a grenade on the ground and picked it up. He could have done that at Fort Dix. In fact, Cleland could have dropped a grenade on his foot as a National Guardsman or what Cleland sneeringly calls "weekend warriors." Luckily for Cleland's political career and current pomposity about Bush, he happened to do it while in Vietnam. Ann Coulter hits it out of the park again! Liberals don't like it when conservatives fight back!

I gotta wonder if Cleland lost some brain matter along with those limbs...

I saw a guy almost do that to himself in basic, as a matter of fact he kind of looked like Max. :-}

"I just know a whole lot of veterans who would have loved to have worked things out with the military and adjusted their tour of duty." (Cleland already knows one Al Gore!)
Correction, Ann. Al Gore and John Kerry. Kerry got an early out also.

I've never seen an angry grenade, but the ones used in basic training convinced me they were nothing like the Hollywood M-80s. They demand respect, son.

Tragic accident... but trying to portray what happened as heroic is misleading to say the very least.
I don't think W. has ever described his guard duty as heroic.

have suddenly become jock-sniffers for war veterans and working himself into a lather about President Bush's military service. Citing such renowned military experts as Molly Ivins... What's not to love about Ann?

Ex-Sen. (deposed) Max Cleland was an Army Signal Officer who was also the unit finance officer; hence his thirst for knowledge of pay stubs. His limbs were summarily removed by a friendly-fire handgrenade incident - not his own weapon, almost certainly he was not fragged as has been rumored. He went into a hostile fire zone more on a whim than a mission - not his venue. A mistake not he made once - did not repeat.

The solution to Guardgate is to have President Bush take off as pilot on a Swift boat and Senator Kerry take off as pilot an F102 (which is a single place aircraft). The survivor wins in November.

If Cleland had any brain power in the first place he would never have picked up a grenade and nearly offed himself.
