PHILADELPHIA -- Police say a child in a school playground was shot in the face and a school crossing guard was wounded in the foot by gunfire Wednesday morning in North Philadelphia.
The shooting happened just after 8:30 a.m. in the area of 23rd and Cambria streets.
Police say two men were shooting each other, and the gunfire hit the child and wounded the crossing guard in the foot.
The child has been taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. No word yet on the crossing guard's condition.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
Police at the scene say they are looking for a silver Jeep seen fleeing the area after the shootout.

But, but...It's illegal to bring guns on school property.
"The way to prevent gun violence is to take guns out of the hands of criminals, not to put a gun to the head of honest gun owners. Rest assured, I will continue the fight for our constitutional freedoms."

Okay, maybe the Mantua section, but this part of North Philly is basically as bad as it gets. Also, these were not "early risers" who were out there shooting it up. These animals simply had not passed out yet.

This is, of course, horrible.
However the media and governments will probably overreact by passing laws forbidding guns within 2000 feet of schoolyards or some such, and consider the problem solved.
