MOSCOW, Feb. 10 -- The fate of Russia's disappearing presidential candidate cleared up Tuesday when he turned up alive and seemingly well in Ukraine. But the mystery of what really happened to him only deepened.
Ivan Rybkin, a former parliamentary speaker mounting a long-shot challenge to President Vladimir Putin in the March 14 election, returned to Moscow on an evening flight, saying he had simply gone to see friends in Kiev and was stunned to learn that people were looking for him.

Actually, is that much of a stretch to believe that this guy vanished in order to trump up all this free publicity for his campaign?
Then again, we still have people wandering around here that think that Putin planned those 1999 apartment bombings in Moscow.

Putin still has fascist tendencies though Yes, fighting Islamist mafia, prosecuting "reform minded" crooks and being very popular is a typical fascism.
The proper PC policy would be to give all national assets to the "oligarchs", letting Wahabi "freedom fighters" partition the border territory (to set a nice slave trade under Sharia law) and change Russia into banana republic without the bananas. As a reward the humanitarian West will provide the body-guards and approval to such democratic leader (like it was done the Shevardnadze or Djinjic).
