Any community who elected this guy to dogcatcher ought to be ashamed. Reading his inane, ill-informed comments about the way Dr. Atkins died and then trashing Mrs. Atkins when she called for an apology is just classless. Now referring to statements by the NRA's BOD such as "owning a gun is not a crime" as "reprehensible". Nothing anything any of the BOD members said even begins to approach the callousness of his comments directed at the Atkins family.

Bloomberg is for certain an overbearing nanny, but it's also just as certain he doesn't have one scintilla of decency or honor in his entire being.

Every citizen has a responsibility and the right to learn how to take care of themselves and their families as best they can. This includes the safe and responsible use of firearms. Any politician that tries to deny them the right to do this should be run out of office.

What about Jose Acosta, the 69-year-old bodega clerk jailed for using his .22-caliber unregistered handgun to kill an armed thug who attempted to rob his Harlem grocery store? Punished for protecting his life and livelihood, this hard-working, law-abiding legal immigrant from the Dominican Republic is among untold victims of a system that subjects businesses and individuals to Byzantine, insurmountable gun-permit regulations while criminals romp.

Mohamed Dramy, another bodega worker, followed Bloomberg's utopian vision. He was totally helpless, with no weapon in sight, when a gang of thieves broke into his Harlem deli grocery last year. The end result? He was gunned down in cold blood and died behind his checkout counter.

Jose Acosta should be regarded as a hero for knocking off a criminal that New York's finest probably got many a time but that New York judges wouldn't keep off the streets. He should not be punished as a criminal and kept off the streets as if he had committed a real crime.

It seems as though the thieves are making out like real bandits. Why cannot any of these New Yorkers protect themselves in Court by pleading the Second? That's right, the Second, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms." (Other than that it would strike fear into the hearts of every criminal in the City.)

Strange how some of the places like Los Angeles with really tight and harsh gun control laws never did really fix all their problems with highly restrictive gun laws. In fact, did they accomplish anything other than bust those who committed no crimes other than violate the gun law itself?

#1 - Of COURSE Bloominidiot is against people carrying guns. That's because he is, at heart, a communist or, at least, a socialist.

#2 - No, guns do NOT kill people. People kill people. I have never heard of a gun just "going off" and killing someone. There has ALWAYS been some type of human intervention.
There may be cases like this, although I doubt it, but I have never heard of one.

#3 - Too many people carrying guns in the city? There aren't ENOUGH people carrying guns in citys.
I subscribe to the theory that, "An armed society is a polite society."
If you don't know whether someone is armed with a gun are you really going to curse that person?
Criminals won't normally commit a crime against another person if there is even a good chance that the person may be armed.
