Typical Fusion ramble off story:

Senator Patrick Ballantine at GOP Club

Posted by Jomini to Incorrigible; Wraith; Gael; Constitution Day On News/Activism 04/13/2003 4:04:51 AM PDT #3 of 10

The former candidate was jet lagged and found it difficult to concentrate on the excited ramblings of the state senator's young staffer. But the kid was enthusiastic so he listened intently. "We're thrilled he's running for Governor. Will your organisation be able to deliver Down East in the General?" -- the staffer asked.

The former candidate thought it might be a good idea to get the six term state senator through the primary first -- there had been rumblings from Wayne and Beaufort that many bridges had to be rebuilt first. However he liked the young legislator from the coast and replied, "Sure, give the Senator my best..."

The event was a Reagan Day Dinner a county or two north of the State Capitol. The White House choice to run for US Senate against the Democratic incumbent (and Presidential candidate) was keynote speaker and the local GOP faithful were all buzzing. Talk of politics was everywhere and the former candidate enjoyed catching up with his political allies.

Seventy-two hours earlier he had been in Manila with the Hawk -- wrapping up five weeks of consulting work and preparing for the next fight...

"Will sixty snake eaters be enough? I think we can force the MILF to the peace table and Abu Sayaf is on the run, but that new Communist army up north is much stronger than these intelligence estimates indicate..."

"Sixty is plenty for now -- and don't worry about the intelligence estimates. Try and remember what's important is that we know what's going on. If GMA decides to suspend the constitution next year and seek another term then she had better be ready to declare martial law and put the army in the streets. Either way I suspect the Philippines will have civil war next year," the Hawk said -- while pouring another glass of red wine.

"Just make sure those conservative Republican friends of your's get the word," he added. "We will need additional funding by the fourth quarter..."

The former candidate forced himself back to the present as the young staffer wandered to the next event patron and another round of hand shaking. He would have to file in January and soon begin to prepare himself for the next campaign. It would be exciting to watch the Republicans grass-root both a Gubernatorial and Senate win against the hated Democrats...

But first there was the business of the olde country's defence. According to the Hawk the Balkans were simmering -- which meant it would be a good time to check in with the Colonel...
