Since the assassination of Mr Fusion on Friday I have become very interested in the Chechen war of liberation versus Russia. I remember how the opposition went to such extremes to assassinate general Masoud two days before Septmeber 11. So when opposition forces go to such lengths again I want to pay attention.

What I am learning is how the western press has been misled by "the Russian Federation's agitprop spinmeisters" according to this article. The article is long but I believe offers a contrary view to much of the venom that has been spewed in this forum since last week's escalation of the war.

I would be interested in substantive dialogues and comments in this forum concerning this issue. It appears the so-called "al Qaeda-Chechen connection" is nothing more than a revisionist myth.

If that is the case one must wonder why so much time and money is going into misleading the American public during an election year.

Well G., it would appear that nobody has glommed onto the fact that you and Fusion are one in the same.

How long do you think that's going to last for?

Hello Russian Conservative

I have started my education about the war between Chechnya and the Russian Federation and I have learned many things.

First of all you are right, the KGB is inactive. I was wrong and they are now called the FSS. These are the people who round up Chechen males and send them to concentration camps or sometimes execute them without a trial.

I have also learned Chechens have been fighting Russia for over 150 years. This makes me think it is not about terrorism but a long-term nationalist battle.

I also learned Mr Stalin deported hundreds of thousand of Chechens from their homelands in the 1950s and sent them to Siberia. I can see where some people would be upset about this and want to fight back even if odds are long and fight is tough.

I also see where the Chechen Army defeats small Russian units every day. A man from the AP named Yuri Bagrov writes about this a couple times a week. I would post the article here but I don't want to be assassinated by FSS like Mr Fusion was.

On another post you equated the KKK with people from North Carolina. I don't think that is fair or appropriate in the 21st century. As a foreigner you are not expected to be aware of these things, but in America some people see that kind of thinking as racist.

No one is saying that Putin is a nice guy. But our main enemies, potential or actual, are Islamists and Communist China. I think we can work with Putin on that, although there will be some rough spots.

While you are at it, brainchild, do please explain to us how one of the greatest chechen fighters ever was from Jordan, and was just recently replaced by some Saudi terrorist expert. Of course, the chechens are not linked to the rest of the world's islamic killers, nah, just a coincidence that Bin Laden paid the chechens to behead those 4 men a few years ago.

Des, where was that thread on the new Saudi taking Khattab's place?

You still have a LOT to learn, JOM, but I am willing to help you.

Myth this

"The introduction of Khattab into the Caucasus region can explain not only the rise of the SPIR, but also two other Chechen terror groups--the Islamic International Brigade (IIB) and Riyadus-Salikhin Reconnaissance and Sabotage Battalion of Chechen Martyrs. All three groups — loosely formed and interconnected — were intimately involved in the Moscow hostage crisis, sharing fighters, weapons, and tactics. According to press reports, this was due to Khattab and bin Laden’s shared desire in 1995 to “create one Muslim nation on the Caucasus under fundamentalist rule.” Subsequently, millions of dollars per month were funneled into the region to fund this initiative, and shortly there after, Chechens began receiving terror training in Afghanistan as well as indoctrination of the Wahabbi creed in various “learning centers” across Chechnya . Some reports suggest as many as 1,000 recruits passed through these centers during this time. It was these events that were the impetus for the radical Chechen movements of today, such as the SPIR, IIB, and Riyadus-Salikhin."

Look, this isn't hard.

Jihadists come to my country, the USA, spray my people with exploding jet fuel, at more than 2000 degrees forcing my people from the windows of a 110 story building, sending my people to a splattering death on NYC pavement, only to have their burned splattered bodies pummeled under millions of tons of twisted concrete and steel, and to watch their family identify their flecks and fingernails at a place called fresh-kills.

When Putin says:

"Russia doesn't conduct negotiations with terrorists -- it destroys them,"

All I can say is: "How can I help?"

I learned long ago that there is no such thing as nations, only interests. The interest that is attempting to confiscate a piece of Russia is the same interest that declared war on my country on 9/11, and their going to loose, in this lifetime, or next.

I hope you find the above simple truth to be enlightening and educational.

"In October 1999, for instance, it is believed representatives of Basayev and Khattab traveled to Kandahar province in Afghanistan to meet with bin Laden to secure military assistance, additional financial aid, and fighters to be sent to Chechnya and Dagestan to take on the Russians. Khattab had originally met bin Laden in 1987 as mujahideen partners during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan , and from 1989 to 1994, was believed to have returned to the country to secure further contacts with elements of the radical Chechen resistance. Shamil Basayev traveled personally to Afghanistan as well, visiting Khost province in 1994 to meet with Khattab and to tour various mujahadeen camps and to receive training and Islamic fighters to return to Chechnya with. Never mind, Des.

Found it

"Abu-al-Walid al-Ghamidi, 36, has been identified by the FSB, the Russian intelligence service, as one of the most powerful figures in the Chechen rebel leadership. As the commander of several hundred Arabs fighting alongside the rebels, he is thought to have been responsible for a wave of suicide bomb attacks that have killed more than 200 people in just over a year."

"Walid, a follower of the Wahhabi sect that dominates worship in Saudi Arabia, signalled the determination of Chechen extremists to take their war against the Kremlin to Russian soil when he broadcast a statement from the republic last year on Al-Jazeera, the Arab television network. “If operations in Chechnya continue they will harm Chechen people, so we have decided to export operations inside Russia,” declared Walid, a bearded man with long black hair who wore a uniform and spoke against the backdrop of a Chechen flag."

Gee now why is Al Jazeera broadcasting pro-chechen speeches by Saudis. Hmm, I wonder if there is a connection between all the islamic terrorists of the world?

I thought the problem was Wahhabs in Chechnya, not Chechins in Wahhabia. Mebbe I should read the article again: It seems to gloss this point.

Founded in 1999, the American Committee for Peace in Chechnya is the only private, non-governmental organization in North America exclusively dedicated to promoting the peaceful resolution of the Russo-Chechen war. Chaired by former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, former Secretary of State Alexander M. Haig, Jr. and former Congressman Stephen J. Solarz, the committee is composed of more than one hundred distinguished Americans representing both major political parties and nearly every walk of life. Former Ambassador Max M. Kampelman is the co-chair emeritus

Ahh, Mr. Brzezinski, Carter white house and unofficial Clinton white house....also deep hater of all that is Russia, who advise the destruction of Russia and who quoted on article to say in 1996 that no one has to fear Islam International, since it is not real or threat to US....I bet families of 3,000 would not agree.

Then Haig who serve paranoid and crook Nixon and

SOLARZ, Stephen Joshua, a Representative from New York; born in New York City, September 12, 1940; attended public schools in New York City; B.A., Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass., 1962; M.A., public law and government, Columbia University, New York, 1967; taught political science at Brooklyn (N.Y.) College, 1967-1968; served in the New York State assembly, 1969-1974; delegate, Democratic National Mid-term Convention, 1974; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1975-January 3, 1993); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress; appointed by President Clinton as chairman of the Central Asian-American Enterprise Fund and served from July 1993 to the present; is a resident of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Interesting company kept....maybe next you post something of Amnesty International, UN, MoveOn.org or Communist International, to support your place....I hear, Bin Ladin has many good pieces you like too.

Well recently 5 pieces of revisionist myth killed on Pakistani boarder with shoot out with Pakistani soldiers...also four such pieces of "myth" sit in US prison in Cuba...oh but that may destroy your Islam induced excuses. Fusion Jr? I know many Americans none respect type of Fusion, so when you say in NC he is respected man, that make me think that you either him, or you friend of him, because no where is he listed as speaker or politician or anybody to know....hmmmm.

FYI the second chechen was was tarted by chechens themselves by attacking Dagestan.
BEFORE that war there was few terrorist acts in southern parts of Russia. The perpetrators was captured and sentenced. One of them the warlord Raduev died in russian prison.

AFTER war started and turned badly for chechens they turned to terrorism. Now they comnpletely went into it palestinian style. That is suicide bombing.
None will deny that suicide bombing possible without islamic indoctrination at big level. SO they do.

So chechens may be WERE moderate islamic ethnicity but during soviet rule. Today they become islamic extremists and few of them - terrorists- suicide bombers.

Thank God President Bush is'nt fooled by chechen propaganda like Carter and clinton! Terrible that it took WTC to show islamic threat. All they had to do was read arab and chechen web sites and they would known sooner the truth. Chechnya not about independence. It is the Islamic civil war between sufism and wahhabism and guess which one supported by Usama Bin Laden!
