What I am learning is how the western press has been misled by "the Russian Federation's agitprop spinmeisters" according to this article. The article is long but I believe offers a contrary view to much of the venom that has been spewed in this forum since last week's escalation of the war.
I would be interested in substantive dialogues and comments in this forum concerning this issue. It appears the so-called "al Qaeda-Chechen connection" is nothing more than a revisionist myth.
If that is the case one must wonder why so much time and money is going into misleading the American public during an election year.

How long do you think that's going to last for?
I have started my education about the war between Chechnya and the Russian Federation and I have learned many things.
First of all you are right, the KGB is inactive. I was wrong and they are now called the FSS. These are the people who round up Chechen males and send them to concentration camps or sometimes execute them without a trial.
I have also learned Chechens have been fighting Russia for over 150 years. This makes me think it is not about terrorism but a long-term nationalist battle.
I also learned Mr Stalin deported hundreds of thousand of Chechens from their homelands in the 1950s and sent them to Siberia. I can see where some people would be upset about this and want to fight back even if odds are long and fight is tough.
I also see where the Chechen Army defeats small Russian units every day. A man from the AP named Yuri Bagrov writes about this a couple times a week. I would post the article here but I don't want to be assassinated by FSS like Mr Fusion was.
On another post you equated the KKK with people from North Carolina. I don't think that is fair or appropriate in the 21st century. As a foreigner you are not expected to be aware of these things, but in America some people see that kind of thinking as racist.

Well you obviously have not learned much or well. Keep trying. We have years and years on you, but you can eventually get it. I hope.
Wahabi scum = wahabi scum = wahabi scum.
Des, where was that thread on the new Saudi taking Khattab's place?
You still have a LOT to learn, JOM, but I am willing to help you.
"The introduction of Khattab into the Caucasus region can explain not only the rise of the SPIR, but also two other Chechen terror groups--the Islamic International Brigade (IIB) and Riyadus-Salikhin Reconnaissance and Sabotage Battalion of Chechen Martyrs. All three groups loosely formed and interconnected were intimately involved in the Moscow hostage crisis, sharing fighters, weapons, and tactics. According to press reports, this was due to Khattab and bin Ladens shared desire in 1995 to create one Muslim nation on the Caucasus under fundamentalist rule. Subsequently, millions of dollars per month were funneled into the region to fund this initiative, and shortly there after, Chechens began receiving terror training in Afghanistan as well as indoctrination of the Wahabbi creed in various learning centers across Chechnya . Some reports suggest as many as 1,000 recruits passed through these centers during this time. It was these events that were the impetus for the radical Chechen movements of today, such as the SPIR, IIB, and Riyadus-Salikhin."
Jihadists come to my country, the USA, spray my people with exploding jet fuel, at more than 2000 degrees forcing my people from the windows of a 110 story building, sending my people to a splattering death on NYC pavement, only to have their burned splattered bodies pummeled under millions of tons of twisted concrete and steel, and to watch their family identify their flecks and fingernails at a place called fresh-kills.
When Putin says:
"Russia doesn't conduct negotiations with terrorists -- it destroys them,"
All I can say is: "How can I help?"
I learned long ago that there is no such thing as nations, only interests. The interest that is attempting to confiscate a piece of Russia is the same interest that declared war on my country on 9/11, and their going to loose, in this lifetime, or next.
I hope you find the above simple truth to be enlightening and educational.
Same link as my post above...
Me, I am willing to help supply all the toilets needed for Putin to take out the chechens.
"Abu-al-Walid al-Ghamidi, 36, has been identified by the FSB, the Russian intelligence service, as one of the most powerful figures in the Chechen rebel leadership. As the commander of several hundred Arabs fighting alongside the rebels, he is thought to have been responsible for a wave of suicide bomb attacks that have killed more than 200 people in just over a year."
"Walid, a follower of the Wahhabi sect that dominates worship in Saudi Arabia, signalled the determination of Chechen extremists to take their war against the Kremlin to Russian soil when he broadcast a statement from the republic last year on Al-Jazeera, the Arab television network. If operations in Chechnya continue they will harm Chechen people, so we have decided to export operations inside Russia, declared Walid, a bearded man with long black hair who wore a uniform and spoke against the backdrop of a Chechen flag."
Gee now why is Al Jazeera broadcasting pro-chechen speeches by Saudis. Hmm, I wonder if there is a connection between all the islamic terrorists of the world?
These are the people who round up Chechen males and send them to concentration camps or sometimes execute them without a trial. I have also learned Chechens have been fighting Russia for over 150 years. This makes me think it is not about terrorism but a long-term nationalist battle.
Though autrocity happen, true, there is no concentrated effort, otherwise all Chechins long dead. As for 150 years, it is 150 years that Chechins raid and slave on Russian Tarek Cossaks (Tarek land is north half of modern day Chechnya). Did you know Chechyns Stalin allie in 1920s to murder Tarek Cossaks and in exchange Stalin as minister of minorities rewrote map and give them Christian land and Christian city Grozny? Probably not. Well now you learned. Chechins also take slaves from Orthodox Ossessions, Georgians, Abkhazians too and Muslims Daghistanies and Azerbajanies and Inguishians...why all neighbors dispise Chechins. You have much to learn and make many leftwing assumptions based on half truth and PC BS taught in West....keep trying.
