If anyone is stupid enough to have their vote swayed due to something they read on the INTERNET, then this should be the LEAST of their worries.

Unfortunately, there are many, many people that would believe this kind of garbage. The average person isn't that up to date on things like current affairs/politics/news stories. They get their news and form their opinions on the bits and pieces they hear from other people, including the internet.

The average American ain't too bright.

There are four kinds of people on the internet. Right wing fanatics who will vote for Hitlerm left wing fanatics who will vote for anyone with a "d" after their name, moderates who think for themselves and "surfers" who don't care about politics. AndErgo, gossip on the internet is not going to change any votes. Whatever is written on the internet will believed by those who already believe it.

Let me guess? You don't think advertising works either? Anyone stupid enough to be influenced by an ad? Let me tell you, the trolls here are paid professionals with a script. They know what they're doing and someone pretty smart is paying them. It's not a grass roots project. Hitler used the same technique. Every thug has figured this one out. It's one of the reasons our founding fathers put the "freedom to assemble" thing in our constitution.

The current trolls job is to break up our ability to communicate. Hitler had to send his "boys" into the meeting citizens had to break them up. But, like these trolls, Hitler's boys made it impossible for the groups to function as groups. You have to understand that Nazi's are defined by their tactics, not their choice of victims. Today it's conservatives, next it could be Jews, next it could be some liberal group. Thuggery doesn't change, just the fools who enable them.
