In the wake of California's recall election, there is one clear path to political success for state Republicans: Be Arnold -- or as much like him as possible.

And boy, are the four top Republican contenders for U.S. Senate trying. For good reason: The winner of the party's March 2 primary may have the best shot ever at toppling two-term Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.

Be Arnold...except Kaloogian isn't trying to be Arnold. Now, he takes credit for the recall that got Arnold the job, but he isn't trying to be like him (case in point, he actually is running a conservative campaign. Not as a moderate like Marin, Casey, and Jones are).

Of course, if he wins the primary (with 73% undecided...thats a lot at this point), he will probably need Arnold's help to win. If he can get it.

Arnold did not win the recall BECAUSE he was a moderate. He won because he was a CELEBRITY.

The issues that now set Kaloogian apart from Arnold were not a factor in the support Arnold received in the recall. Those issues will however play a big part in the race against Boxer.

And Jones opposed the Republican endorsement of the recall in February of 2003 when you, and I and Howard Kaloogian and a few hundred of our friends were rallying in support of the recall at the State Capitol - the first recall rally... all of which were organized and led by Kaloogian!
