I met a British couple that worked in Jo'burg back in the '60s. They actually drove back to England.

I tried the cheap route by getting an Afrikaner boyfriend but all I learned was cuss words LOLI didn't even pick up that much while I was there ;-)
I mostly lived with Germans at an English speaker's house so we either spoke German (when the owner wasn't there) or English (when he was).

They actually drove back to England. No sh!t. That would've been quite a feat. Still would be.

My younger brother could not get over the "happy birthday to you" performance by Lee Marvin.

Only for swimming, I was in Ft. Lauderdale for one night and then drove back up, and never made it back down. :(
I will soon enough, but if I get to the Keys, I may never leave. :)

A case of little money and homesickness. That, and being fortunate enough to survive camping in some pretty dicey places.

Just checked Drudge's web page. Has column by Peggy Noonan who says the President's interview wasn't impressive. I have to agree that he was not energized or readily quick with his responses. I saw him as thoughtful with his responses. I didn't see it this morning but caught the replay at 10PM. It was much better than I expected based on all the naysayers including Peggy.
I thought Bush's 'slower response' came across as very thoughtful & deliberate. He was so natural.....and he communicated his vision and the implications of a democratic Iraq very well.
Russert was rude at times especially in his attempts to interrupt GWB. The President kept his cool! Overall I thought he did well.
