Bush has angered conservatives in the western states and the south with the immigration proposal. He needs to revamp this long before the election, and I believe he will.

> Is it just me or did Russert look unusually bad this morning?

I didn't watch, but keep in mind that Russert was likely
under some duress. Once news of the interview was out, I'm
sure he got lots of "help" on the questions. It's possible
that personally, he didn't want to ask some, or run such a
confrontational cross-examination. Consider who he takes
his marching orders from, and who's leaning on them too.

In any case, sounds like GW handled this campaign warm-up
competently.

Let's face it folks, The dominant media elite is still fuming over the Florida debacle.

Actually they tried and failed at derailing the last election. There is little doubt in my mind that they worked to deprive the GOP of a win.

... the Florida debacle....

Florida was no debacle. Gore tried to steal the election and he failed. It would have been a debacle if he succeeded. The partisan Press is mad because their man didn't win. They are just looking for a reason that the middle voters could accept.

Okay, maybe this was a good test case, but based upon what I saw, the media is going to taunt and hammer him, and give the giggolo a free ride. Yes, Bush has to deal with them, but I predict possibly the bloodiest fight in the last 100 years.

I agree with you that Bush will have a real fight on his hands, but, based on questions I saw from several of the Democrat debates, I hope that Kerry does not get a free ride. After all, much of the media may favor the left, but they love a blood-fest, and will likely contribute to that. Let's see how Kerry does on the Sunday talk show circuit. I don't think they will let him off the hook. But in any case, the President needs to put the gloves on and not run a campaign like his father did.

I hate to say this, but conservatives must be similarly pragmatic, or, if you will, Machiavellian like the dims. Not liars, not disengenuous, but pragmatic realists. We are dealing with unrelenting, dedicated scum, and it is going to be a test of determination. Our troops don't fail us, and we must be just as aggressive on the homefront!

Bush has to go on some programs. If he doesn't the Press will cry that he is afraid. Get it done now. Then, when they say, President Bush isn't being open, he can say, he's been on the programs.

"The partisan Press is mad because their man didn't win. They are just looking for a reason that the middle voters could accept."

There is a palpable hatred of GWB on the left, and it is a reality we must deal with. They still control the media, and will leave no stone unturned to (first disgrace through lies, and revere the giggolo). Today's interview really woke me up, and that was the reason for my post.

"What worries me, is that the dominant media culture has such a profound hatred for Bush, that Russert might indeed pale by comparison in the near future!"

Who cares what the mainstrawm media says or does. Why do so many Freepers hold their breath and wait to see if their views will ever be endorsed by the minstream press.

their ratings have been falling for years, so much so that the nightly news is a joke, the public is well aware of their bias. There is no longer a monoploy on their reporting the news.

Stop worring about being accepted by the media

Kerry will get a free ride from the major three, possibly with a few exceptions. Dubya will have to be 4 times a tough as his dad was vis a vis re election. If he does, he will win; if he doesn't we are in trouble.

I didn't really realize how true this is until this morning. You are correct! Bush needs to be aggressive, humorous and convincing like Ronald Reagan.

....palpable hatred of GWB....

Your assessment is correct. But, I don't agree that it is hatred. It's an act. They are pretending to hate him because that's their strategy for saying he's a divider not a uniter.

True, he is humiliating them because he does the things they wish they could do. But, it's all an act.

Same, the right does not hate Clinton. We are repulsed by him. You don't hate the smell of a turd, you are annoyed by it. He was a sad, incompetent President.

Neither do I, and that worries me too! He has to be tough like he did after 9/11 when he had an incredible approval rating. Let us face it; Americans love a tough fearless leader. It makes them feel comfortable for their families and their future. Kerry is a ho, and his record speaks for itself. If Bush gets tough, he will win resoundingly!

Agreed. Florida was no mistake from the moment that Gore sent Bill Daley to oversee the "process of manufacuring votes" and tighten up the race. Chicago's Daley machine is legendary for throwing voting boxes into the Chicago river, voter intimidation and other "disinfrancisement" of non-approved candidates (read someone outside the Machine).

Quote JIM NICHOLSON RNC Chair: "It's certainly an option that would have to be looked at. I mean, what we need first and foremost in this process is fairness. Fairness to everybody that went in and voted.

You know, the fact that 20,000 votes got kicked out in Palm Beach County is not so extraordinary. In Cook County, home county of Bill Daley, Gore's campaign manager, 120,000 votes got kicked out. In Duval County, Jacksonville County, 26,000 votes got kicked out and there Governor Bush won 60 percent of the vote. So these things happen in these elections. [/snip]

President Nixon in 1960, when the votes were counted, he was down 2/10 of 1 percent and he was told there were major voting irregularities in Chicago and Texas, and he was advised strongly by a lot of people. Yet he said in the interests of my country, I'm not going to put this to a recount. President Kennedy needs to get organized to take over this government. President Ford did the same thing in '76." But now, we are faced with a Kerry, who on many levels, rivals Carter as the biggest incompetant hitherto known to American history.
