When I read the title, I expected it to be about how the underground heat was used.
Thera blew it's top in 1628BC and, IMO, provided all the fireworks (plagues, etc) for the Biblical Exodus.
Also, in 1300AD the whole island was owned by a Jewish guy named Joseph Nazi.

Thera came under Nazi control again in A.D. 1941.
It says the people of Thera used fire for nutrition. A later group of fire-eaters caused the U.S. Civil War.
