Mass grave reported near Al-Najaf in Iraq

The inhabitants of the Al-Kafal town have found at least 30 bodies in a new mass grave left by the defunct Saddamist regime.

Our correspondent quoted several of the town's inhabitants who said that some of the local people discovered the mass grave while transporting sand. Workers have started to dig up the bodies from the mass grave under the supervision of the religious authorities in holy Al-Najaf.

Since the US-led invasion of Iraq and the toppling of the criminal Saddam government, mass graves that contain thousands of bodies have been found in areas where the majority of the inhabitants are Shi'i.

Abbas Salih al-Maliki, who discovered the grave the day before yesterday, said: In 1991, we saw trucks and diggers working in this area, but we did not know then what they were doing.

The inhabitants of southern Iraq were exposed to harsh repression during the era of the tyrant Saddam after they staged an uprising against his regime in the aftermath of the 1991 Gulf War.

I clipped the following from an E mail sent by an Army officer serving in Iraq:

***In my last note I said that 90% of the Iraqi people were with us. After two
months I would probably change that to 99%. A woman told me yesterday that
"we prayed for you to invade and rid us of Saddam." I went out to a local
bridge we are rebuilding, and an Iraqi man told one of my officers "they
tell us when you come you kill us and take our money; all you take is our
hearts."***

This is what I believe is the answer to the liberals question "what happened to all of the people who worked on Saddam's WMD programs. Where are they?"
