President Bush "enjoyed the heck out of" his 20 minutes at the controls of a Navy S-3B Viking, flying at more than 400 mph across the Pacific, according to the Marquette University graduate who turned the stick over to the president.
Commander John "Skip" Lussier, who left Marquette and The Gym bar in 1985, said he gave Bush the controls shortly after they took off from San Diego on Thursday and let the president return to his days in the Texas Air National Guard. Except for the landing.
"As an Air National Guard pilot, going to the carrier and doing carrier landings was not part of his repertoire," Lussier said.
He said Bush flew in formation and handled the airplane like an "old aviator."
