If you aren't a moderator, then I suggest you bugger off. If you are one, then I suggest you reply as a moderator so that you don't get told to bugger off.

The President is on Meet The Press this morning. Discussing his accomplishments is germane to the topic.

TR: What about McAuliffe's quote that President was AWOL?

GWB: Was in NG, learned to fly planes, put in time, honorably discharged. This has gone on for years. Did report or wouldn't have been honorably discharged; did show up in Alabama.

Don't denigrate Guard, lots of wonderful people serve in guard.

TR: Willing to open files?

GWB: Sure, people have been questioning this for years. People have looked at these for years. They can look at anything that is there. Doesn't like it when people say serving in Guard is not true service; it is. Could've been called up.

TR: You didn't volunteer to go?

GWB: No, I didn't. Served here. Looking back, Vietnam was a political war, politicians making military decisions. Good lesson to learn, that doesn't need to happen again.

TR: Economy chart...unemployment up, etc...why should we trust this administration to continue to lead?

GWB: Stock market decline began by March 2000. Economy going down by time GWB took office. Attacks in Sept. 11 had effect on economy. Everything we've gone thru affected economy.

Instead of sitting around wondering what to do, I took action - cut taxes, economic stimulus plan. Jobs are increasing, economy getting better.

TR: Benefits from tax cuts haven't happened.

GWB: It's HAPPENING. Look forward to debate on economy. Economy is coming around just fine.

TR: GAO says current economic situation not sustainable. How as a fiscal conservative can you allow a $5 billion deficit?

GWB: Budget I just submitted cuts deficit in half in 5 years; at that point deficit in terms of GDP will be low. We do have issues, must modernize Medicare. Have to deal with Social Security. Entitlement programs must be dealt with.

Highway bill in Congress now.

TR: Base conservatives say GWB is biggest spender in US History.

GWB: Discretionary spending has steadily declined. We ARE at war, must give troops best equipment & best pay.

TR: In past wartime has meant higher taxes, not lower. Why keep cutting taxes?

GWB: Best way to stimulate economic growth. Don't want to slow it down. More worried about the fellow looking for the job.

TR: No more tax cuts til budget is balanced?

GWB: Hypothetical. Can't tell you what economy is going to be. Need to keep taxes low on working people.

It's the vocabulary of third graders

They tailor it to fit the mental capacity of their constituents.

Morons make up about 80% of the rat base.

Perverts, communists, and trial lawyers account for the rest.

My schedule this school year entails being in my car on Wednesday afternoons when Hugh Hewitt is on (a time I wasn't used to listening to talk radio when at home). I happened on the show and heard this English accent and was so pleased to find out it was Mark Steyn.

Steyn appears every Wednesday on Hewitt's program and boy, is he a shot in the arm. Hewitt is great, too.

MTP; Spending, even conservatives say you're spending too much

GWB; they're wrong..discretionary spending is decreasing.

MTP; tax cuts during war? why. No President has lowered taxes during war..

GWB; I believe in keeping more money in people's pockets..(paraphrase) it helps the economy and jobs....

Tim sure has a thing for tax cuts. ...jeeezzz.

You know Russert is a typical lib? Whine about the bad and ignore any good that is happening.

Tim is looking tense, stern, and haggard to me. GWB looks calm for the most part, and sometimes displays that look of mild amusement at Tim's repetitive Lyin' hit questions.

dwilli is the spin doctor of this thread. The comments printed in the papers regarding the loss of life in Iraq were quite sensitive and to the point.

"Perhaps you can give me a short list of the conservative accomplishments manifested by the George Bush White House."
1) First Tax Cut
2) Second Tax Cut

Is this short enough?

That last exchange with timmy was something. Russert got so carried away with his opinion that he actually said to the President..... "How about no more tax cuts until the budget is balanced?"

The president said Saddam posed a threat.

So did, Clinton in 1998, Rockefeller and Kerry in Oct 2002:

Some serious reading:

PRESIDENT CLINTON VIDEO, December 16, 1998 Sadaam has nuclear arms, poison gas/bio weapons.

Statement of Senator John D. Rockefeller IV - On the Iraq Resolution - October 10, 2002

Remarks of Senator John Kerry on Iraq | October 09, 2002 |

Larry Elder: Were we misled? (about Iraq's WMD)

I need to add the Master list on Kerry:

John Kerry- some selected, informative links... compiled by Backhoe

Tim has to play for the "puppet masters", the liberal media at NBC, thus the tension.

GWB can be his own man.
