In that respect, the political strategy has been to say clearly that they are here and they're not going to be driven into caves. Attack the personal actions of a group and they can either be driven underground or come out and fight for persoanl rights. They chose to come out into the open and fight. You can't fault them for that. Leave them alone and their more "colorful" members will have little use for flamboyancy.
