Maybe this will help. There are principled conservatives, and there are "principled" conservatives. I am addressing the latter, who find nothing positive with the president, no matter what.

As Nix expected, he was immediately attacked by the anti-Bush contingent, who cloak their hatred of the man in "principles."

You know as well as I that there are certain people on this forum who dislike Bush so much that if he were to abolish the income tax tomorrow they would find fault. Those are the people I am talking about.

Okay, I can accept that.

But can you acknowledge that the lack of distinction or proportion in many of the slams against 'principled conservatives' really gets on the nerves of many very committed conservative Republicans?

You are right. True principled conservatives, like Alan Keyes, are supporting Bush.

Alan Keyes comes out in support of President Bush, denounces Democrats, "our survival is at stake!"

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1071872/posts

"KEYES: Oh, I sure do--and I wouldn't want to give the impression that I don't have other problems with this administration on some areas where I think that the president has fallen short of the kinds of things that I really think are needed in some areas.

But I also wouldn't want to give the impression that I think that anything can be more decisive for the American people right now than the question of our national survival in the face of the most insidious threat this nation has ever faced.

In the face of that, I think a lot of us are going to be putting our other issues behind those issues that have to do with the survival of this nation in wartime."
