There is much to chew on here. Without conceeding that the author has invented the new paradigm, one wonders if the flood of internationalism is so inevitable that it will eventually overwhelm our concerns as American constitutionalists and we will pass like the Whigs as historical footnotes.
Just a late night thought - no need to challenge my paleo credentials.

No challenge from me. I try real hard to stay away from those whole label things.

My head is spinning!
I could go either way.
Latest copy of Reason has article "Coercion or Consent"
A reason debate on how to think about liberty.
"Rights and duties" , better read this one!

Celebrate this:Nuclear Family Individualism, Local Control in Local Hands (restoration of Rural Representation), State & National Sovereignty!!!
In a word... Devolution!
A Devolution Revolution began in 1994 and stalled with the unrelated OKC bombing.
Restart the Revolution, but supercede the political party pollution, replace the religious fundamentalism with constitutional fundamentalism to restore the joy of such a "pursuit of happiness" in our restoration of our great American Culture!!!
The forces of Franco-Germanic European Socialism are wanting to make US think it's "broken" and must be "fixed" on their model. They'd really like to bulldoze and rebuild.
How absurd! Our foundation and traditional American culture are solid. Our instutions are overgrown and become inverted/backward in their chain of command by the people. A thorough remodel/rewire/replumbing/reconnecting job is all that is required in a Devolution Revolution.
It must start with good ideas. (www.NaturalProcess.net) It will be intellectual/political as that's how we change things in this country without killing each other. We don't need a "cultural revolution" like Mao's with idiots taking the law in their own hands through militias, vigilantes, etc.
How does it start/spread? Through personal contact.(and sites like FR)
If fear can spread like a virus and infect millions, so can "the pursuit of happiness" and "ideas whose time has come!"

I think many so called conservatives realise this, but do not care. The only fully Constuitionalist member of congress is Rep. Ron Paul, who ironically was the Libertarian party canidate for president in 88.

Here's another ideal "text book" for the Devolution Revolution: The Making of America

We don't need a "cultural revolution" like Mao's with idiots taking the law in their own hands through militias, vigilantes, etc. I like your idea of restoring our country through ideas instead of civil uprising. You can trust that I'll do my part. The current rampant corruption throughout the government has my liberal friends agreeing with us conservatives: big government is the problem, not the solution.

I could go either way. Yeah, there may be a new "paradigm" developing (I hate that pretentious word) but his view ain't it.
His libertarian/communitarian idea muddies the definitional waters even more than liberal/conservative categorization.
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
"And I thought you had made up that phrase "Devolution Revolution".Well crap!!! So did I!!!
I noticed when I googled on "The Making of America" that there were numerous copycats to the title of Mr. Skousen's classic American Constitutional Textbook!!!
Good for Tony Blair! If it's a great idea for the "Mother Country," it's even superior for it's offspring nation!!!
Let's make it happen! (now I'll have to read Blair's stuff to make a considered evaluation, geeze! I'm afraid him and Clinton huddled too much on their "third way" concept, however)

I've been hammering on this for months. Only I see the spectrum as being from liberty to authoritarianim. Communitarian is too misleading a gloss, though the communist parallel is there.
One benefit of the new spectrum is that it can be used to place oneself and the political issues on it.
Then you can judge if the issue is one of oppression, whether it comes from our 'side' or not.
