Still image from television footage shows a U.S. Coast Guard vessel approaching a group of Cubans, as they tried to sail a 1959 Buick converted into a boat through the Florida Straits towards the United States, on Feburary 3, 2004. The same group had already tried last July to reach Florida in a vessel made from a 1951 Chevy truck, only to be picked up by the Coast Guard and sent home, relatives in Cuba and Cuban exiles said on Wednesday. Thanks for the pics. Can you imagine the reaction the CG had when they first spotted them?

Yeah, yeah. Two tries. Two failures.

Let's face it. This floating car thing just aint gettin' the desired results.

These guys need to go back to the drawing board and come up with something new:

Yahknow... I was a Coastie once upon a time. While I was mostly west coast and so never did any of the Cuban interdiction ops... I had many friends that did.

This car/boat creation is just too good. Were I the coastie that found them... I think it would only be sporting to give them a one-horizon head start. Somebody THAT creative should be granted at least an even shot at driving that sucker up onto a beach in Florida. Gotta give 'em credit.

Note that they even repainted the whole thing. The bodgework bow on the front matches the whole car.

There's a man who's proud of his handiwork. That's class.
