Political rhetoric is much like gossip; it begins with a kernel of fact and then is bootstrapped by repetition into something entirely different.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is on the receiving end of some critical media comment and political pamphleteering these days for his supposed betrayal of a pledge not to accept or seek campaign contributions. But it's something of a bad rap for California's governor.

Schwarzenegger Caves on Spending Limit : the deal he cut with the CTA... Oh but that wasn't cutting a deal, it was "coming to a common understanding"... Sigh.
As far as I am concerned, Schwarzenegger has been a situational panderer from the git-go. IMHO, he's as talented a liar as Clinton, because he knows the actor's trick of finding a way to believe what he's saying as he delivers the line. So when he lies about "special interests," later saying that what he meant was "prison guards and Indian tribes," that IS what he's doing in his mind. Never mind the fact that when he uses those words he knows damned well that his listeners understand them to mean something else. As far as I am concerned, it's the worst kind of lie, one that takes forethought, calculation, and uses half-truths, to manipulate the listener into coming to a false conclusion. There is a reason the Bible called it "false witness."
This constant misdirection of his is getting really tiring. The financial people who want to loan California into the third whirld were Arnold's principle backers well before the recall.
With the astronomical broker fees involved in the sale of these bonds, I have no doubt that the supporters will raise more than $10 million, McClintock said. The problem is there is no similar counterbalance on the other side.
Gosh Arnold, after the way you chose to redefine "special interests" you think we are going to trust you?
