Well, it's like I told my daughter when she was about 14 and wanted to go jogging down our street by herself. If all your alertness doesn't work and someone pulls a gun/knife and says get into the car, DON'T DO IT! Make him shoot you right then and there if that's what he's going to do.

If he'd shoot you there on a residential street, then he'd shoot you in a secluded place after he's done God knows what to you. Plus if he shoots you and leaves you for dead, your chances of getting medical attention are much better. And if he shoots you and hauls you off, the chances of someone seeing that increases. If the worst happens and you die right there, well at least someone might see him so that we can track down your murderer and make him pay.

Harsh things to say to your own teenage daughter, but I firmly believe that developing a "go ahead and shoot" attitude is best for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is to decrease the chances of a paralyzing fear. Sort of like Gregory Peck's "consider yourself dead" speech in Twelve O'Clock High.

When my 20 year old daughter wanted to go to the local high school to do her run after dark I told her I was going along to sit in the parking lot. She was not amused.....she had a choice, I go along or she stays home.

Can you guess what she chose?

I'm with you.

I'm a woman who raised two daughters and now has three grandaughters.

The bottom line is NEVER GET IN THE CAR.(if you have a choice)
