Didn't he wait a day before issuing the Amber alert because he thought she was a runaway?

He had no choice. Amber alerts can only be issued when certain conditions are met. Otherwise there would be literally thousands of Amber Alerts every year, 99.5% of which would turn out to be false, and society would ignore them.

I think they had enough to meet the specific criteria, she was on the borderline of the age criteria, but was known to be walking HOME alone, was spotted walking alone in the direction of home, and she dissappeared on route.

But assuming they were correct not to consider the entire fact situation, one thing really, really, bothers me.

A fellow had seen a young woman trying to escape a man in a parking lot - she was dressed like Carlie. It may have been Carlie.

He did not report this until after the Amber Alert with her description, and the videotape had been released.
If he had heard an Amber Alert with her description
I feel certain he would have called in what he had seen.
It might even have been in time to save her.

If he had called anyway, of course, whether it was Carlie or not, I think that was all the extra it would have taken police to issue an Amber Alert.

I think POLICE should have made a different judgement about whether Carlie's dissappearance met the criteria for an Amber Alert. They get the public involved, and even if it had been stepdad who abducted her, it could provide valuable information to solve her dissappearance.

I realize there are restrictions but were'nt her parents expecting her home from the sleep over? Don't they check to see if she had a history of running away? Check to see if she was fighting with her parents? I mean just walking home from a friends house should warrant an alert imo.
