"Good news. Seems our voices are being heard after all." I concur. And as long as the INS fails to enforce the immigration laws on the books and deports illegal aliens there is no "war on drugs", there is no "war on terrorism" and there is definitely no "homeland security!" Semper Fi, Kelly

"It's no great secret that some members of Congress don't agree with every single thing the president is doing," said White House spokesman Trent Duffy. "But he is trying to lead the country, to broaden the party. He promoted his ideas and his agenda for those in the room."

This part in particular is disturbing. "But he is trying to lead the country, to broaden the party." Not defend the constitution, shrink government, strengthen states rights or do the right thing but "broaden the party".

The agenda is clear, anything will be done to get voters and the administration will continue to whore itself out for votes.

This is the problem; "He is trying...to broaden the party".

Seems our voices are being heard after all.

When I hear a dog barking outside, I can easily ignore it. That's what they're doing. The President may say this isn't a political ploy, but that doesn't make it so. They are doing this for more hispanic votes.

This can cost him the election. Setting fire to your grassroots organizations can quickly overwhelm you.

REMEMBER ALL - WRITE IN TANCREDO IN THE PRIMARY, then work like Hell to get George Bush II re-elected. This is going to be a rough election, and the DemonRats and their Orcs in the media are pulling out all the stops to "avenge" Florida.

A Democratic victory in 2004 can not be tolerated. They will destroy all the months and years of planning, blood, and money expended in beating up on Muslim terrorism.

Further, the Repubs MUST have enough votes in the Senate to get conservative judges approved. The leftist "judges" put on the becnh by the Democrats are not judges - they are public enemies. Instead of applying the laws enacted by the legislature, they are enacting their own laws, and functioning like unelected and unaccountable social workers with law-making powers. And the laws they enact are based on their leitist left wing perspectives, not the Constitution, not Congressional laws, and CERTAINLY not the will of the majority of Americans living and dead.

Many House critics of the Bush immigration plan said privately that the proposal was created to win Mr. Bush a larger share of the Hispanic vote in November and to mollify Mexican President Vicente Fox. Mr. Fox has supported relaxed U.S. immigration laws as a means to alleviate economic problems in Mexico.

This has to be the ULTIMATE income redistribution scheme.

On another topic, I read nothing about the various stalled judicial nominations. Wonder if they discussed this issue. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE JUDGES!

said White House spokesman Trent Duffy. "But he is trying to lead the country, to broaden the party.

When it comes right down to it, Mr. Duffy, the proper way to achieve that goal is to persuade Americans to support the conservative position on issues. NOT by cramming the liberal agenda down the throats of the conservative base.

I'm still waiting for one of these pricks to say: "How can we, in good conscience, vote for pork in our home disctricts when we can't afford to properly equip our troops in the field? No new stadiums, no new libraries, no new highways, and no prescriptions drugs until every soldier has the proper equipment!"

In my dreams....

If it works, I'll vote for Bush again. If it doesn't work, I'll be voting 3rd party. End of story

"But then this was supposed to be a no-holds-barred discussion, and our constituents are upset."

As well they should be!

Thank God for the conservative Republicans.

I don't think Rove and bush should take the blame. Congress passed the things. But they are aware of our anger so that is a good thing.

The White House "has told us they will support a freeze if we have the votes, but some of us want the president to take the lead on this," confided a Republican House member who has been negotiating with the administration on the budget.

Why does the president have to take a lead on a spending freeze if there already is enough votes in congress?

And if there isn't enough votes in congress, then does the problem lay with the president or does the problem rest someplace else?

Karl Rove absolutely deserves to hear the brunt of these criticisms, as I believe he is the major architect of the policies that have ticked off conservatives. Even more evidence, that Mr. Rove needs to get the boot if Bush wins a second term. However we cannot be blinded by rage and foresake the awful consequences of bringing Bush down this year. Otherwise we have learned nothing from 2000 and nothing from 1992.

Are you sure? These people are so out of touch that this could have actually been a heated discussion about expense accounts and their house servants immigration status.

The Wall Street Journal has been running articles by various Republicans on this subject but they aren't on Opinion Journal, so I can't post them.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if all of this "slamming" weren't part of a grand Karl Rove strategery to show the vital center of the electorate that Bush isn't the right-winger that Hillary and company are always saying he is. Being dressed down by the likes of Tancredo! That should earn Bush some votes in the center of the electorate.
