Lawmakers eye restoring funds for first responders

Congress is likely to restore the cuts in funding for local emergency services that President Bush had proposed in his 2005 budget, despite the pressure to control spending, said Republican lawmakers and congressional aides yesterday.

"First Responders". Yeah, right. I work in a state agency that is big into homeland security and training first responders. We get millions from the feds every year and what do we spend it on? Brand new, top of the line, Dell laptops every 18 months, 19 inch flat panel monitors to replace the 17 inch flat panel monitors, and four orders of proximas in only the last 12 months with each order replacing the previous one.
