It leaves me thinking that if it is just a benign powder (prankster with baking soda) than why not say so. The way they are handling it it seems like more "nothing to see here, move along"; which I don't appreciate.

Exactly the same feeling I get. It shows up in at least half of the stories, if not more.

Another one I see quite often is "common household product"

What's up with that? If it's baking soda, say that!!

I'll check at some point and see just how many are never identified.
