My mistake. Was McGovern a political hero then?

No, a Marxist. But people respected him cause he was so polite and humble.

Now, he's starting to mention his service and it is really sad to see him lose his humility, or feel the need to beat his chest. He's emulating McCain or Kerry; starting to tell people about how good he was.

Its a shame.

I liked Nixon as a person and for his loyalty to his friends, and his international record was stellar. Certainly Clinton is a far worse human being. But Clinton didn't start any new Cabinet agencies to stomp on our property rights. Clinton didn't mess with the currency or impose fascistic wage-and-price controls. Don't get me wrong, Clinton was a vile and evil President who sold his soul (and America's nuclear secrets) to the Red Chinese, and assaulted Microsoft to benefit his Indonesian backers (lead plaintiff Netscape just happened to have as its largest shareholder at the time a private venture fund stuffed with Indo-Chinese money). And he tried (and, thankfully, failed) to nationalize 1/7 of the American economy. Clinton is easily the most corrupt and treasonous President ever. There's no one in his league. And as you mention, his retroactive tax increases were horrible economics and set a nasty precedent for the future. But it shames me that Nixon did what he did as a Republican. He was, in many ways, the definitive RINO.

You're correct about Nixon being the ultimate RINO. I too have a lot of respect for his foreign policy, but domestically he was the liberals best friend. I still can't quite get over why they hate him so much.

Must be that little Alger Hiss thing. Or that old commie wench he beat for his first House seat.
