Check it out, next time you're driving on the interstate. You have to be less than a car-length away before you can tell gender (assuming an obvious hair difference), let alone skin color. The cops put their sirens on long before they could know who they're chasing.

Black males betweeen the ages of 18-35 commit more crimes than their population ratio.
Something like 1/3 are in prison, on parole, awaiting trial.
In DC, that number rises to 50% of all black males 18-35.
If the data is true, I would have to admit that, as a police officer, I would be more inclined to give black males a "second look" on the road ways.

You are right on target.
Law enforcement officers key on the vehicle in violation and all you really see, usually, is the vehicle until you get it stopped. Then you can find out who or what is driving.
This is especially true at night when most of these alleged "Driving While Black" episodes are supposed to occur.
In recent years, the increased use of tinted windows have made this even more so.
It's not the driver that catches their eye, it's the vehicle and what the vehicle is doing,
