Enrique Bermudez was the greatest commander that the FDN had and a large part of their success in bringing representative government to Nicaragua.
No Nicaraguenca I know, even those who supported the Sandinistas, doubt that he was murdered by Bert Ortega's thugs.

I knew some of the lefty students who went to Nicaragua to support the Sandinistas in the 80s. One was an obnoxiously violent pacifist named Don, son of a local TV producer. Today he is a State Department officer in Asia. Another, a woman, reportedly shacked up with a Cuban army advisor in Nicaragua and almost married him. Today, she is an executive of the American Red Cross. Lee, of course, was a Cuban was implicated as a Castro agent in documents captured from Communist troops in Grenada in 1983. Note that all of these people are on the federal payroll now.
